Lot 2041 W.J. HAUCK CUSTOM MAUSER WEHRMANNGEWEHR SINGLE
SHOT BENCHREST RIFLE. Cal. 219 Donaldson Wasp. S# 113707. Bbl. 27 1/2". Originally mfg. as a Wehrmanngewehr target rifle by Mauser, this example was later customized and converted into a single shot benchrest rifle by Wilbur J. Hauck of Arlington, Vermont. Left side of the custom heavy stainless steel bbl. is stamped "W.J.HAUCK". Receiver is marked with the Mauser banner logo over the top of the chamber, with German crown over "B", "U", "G", and "N" commercial proofs, followed by the S# marked on the left. Left receiver wall is marked "MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF A/N.". Receiver, bolt shroud, cocking piece, and trigger guard exhibit a blue finish, with the bolt body, extractor, handle, and knob being polished in-the-white. Massive 1-piece custom wood benchrest stock features a dark wood forearm tip, 2 brass vibration stablizing screws, flared pistol grip, as well as a dark wood buttplate. Underside of forearm is fitted with a sling swivel stud. Top of stock features a cut to allow for operation of the bolt stop housing. Bbl. is drilled and tapped with 3 sets of plug screws, the 2 rearmost sets currently fitted with a blued steel dovetail optic rail. Adj. Canjar single set trigger with grooved trigger shoe. All serialized parts are matching and include the receiver, bolt stop housing, bolt body, shroud, safety lever, and cocking piece. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their blue finish, exhibiting some light edge wear overall. Bolt stop housing retains the majority of its nitre blue finish, exhibiting light to mild edge wear. Bolt retains a mostly bright appearance, with scattered spots of age related discoloration. Mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Stock exhibits scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise presents nicely. Wood buttplate exhibits a crack that runs through the upper buttplate screw, but otherwise appears sound. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6476/MLW). MODERN. $1,200-1,800.
